Shahpour Pouyan (b. Iran,1980)

Shahpour Pouyan, is the eighth artist to be awarded the Kenneth Armitage Fellowship. Of Iranian origin, his work in sculpture and installation explores expressions of power, domination and possession through the force of culture.

Pouyan’s education was unusual and diverse; he studied Maths, Philosophy and Fine Arts in schools in Tehran and New York. While his work refers naturally to his homeland, Iran, it is distinctly global and conceptual in outlook, often combining references from across the globe in a single work.

Pouyan is based between New York and London. He is represented by Copperfield Gallery (London), Lawrie Shabibi (Dubai) and Nathalie Obadia (Paris/Brussels)
